Child and Youth Counsellor

The Child & Youth Counsellor is available to provide (w)holistic and customized in-shelter youth programming & parenting support, as well as, on-site community outreach counselling or community presentations and workshops. Services are provided to Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Women and Children.

The Role of the Child & Youth Counsellor

In-Shelter Programming

  • Provide a confidential and respectful approach to traditional and conventional counselling for women and children
  • Provide parenting support and resources
  • Weekly youth programming for school-aged children
  • Provide supportive 1:1 counselling
  • Provide school registration support for women and children
  • Provide support for in-house CAS visitation

Outreach Counselling Services

To ensure that we are meeting the needs of women and children in the community the Child & Youth counsellor provides (w)holistic, and confidential community outreach counselling and parenting support for families.

On-site case-specific, and supportive 1:1 child/youth counselling for children and youth

On-site family support meetings
Personalized, strength-based counselling will be provided in a safe location (play therapy, art therapy, emotionally-focused counselling, creating healthy boundaries, building self-esteem, safety & emergency planning, etc.)

Outreach Counselling Services are provided with an ongoing assessmentOutreach Counselling includes providing parenting support and resources

Referral

Advocate for children and provide referrals to other agencies for support

Direct clients and guardians to appropriate resources

Community Presentations

The Child & Youth Counsellor can also be booked to provide Community Presentations or Information Booths on child and youth topics including but not limited to: healthy relationships, disordered eating, bullying, safety planning, abuse, self-care, dating & teen pregnancy, stress & relaxation techniques
